Description
For Christmas 1979, the students gifted Kathryn a Revised Standard Edition of the Holy Bible (which they likely found somewhere in the Embassy). Kathryn has recalled how meaningful to her this gift was, as it helped her to remember prayers and stories she was attempting to incorporate into her daily program. She used the Bible throughout her time in captivity. Kathryn underlined passages in the Bible she kept with her throughout her time as a hostage, to be used for her daily prayers and reflections. The Bible was a place that Kathryn used to store letters she received and items she wished to keep with her. Since she was moved from room to room so often, and without warning, it was helpful to keep the most valuable items together and easily transportable.
