Kathryn Koob with Wartburg president Robert Vogel in Knight's Gym for a Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving, February 12, 1981
On the 100th day of the hostages’ captivity, Wartburg College lit a Vigil Light on top of Old Main, the oldest building on campus.
One year and one day following its lighting, Kathryn Koob visited campus for a Celebration of Freedom and Thanksgiving. Part of the festivities included her pulling a cord to extinguish the Vigil Light, in further celebration of her recent release from Iran.
